Pedagogy
Fibonacci
Fibonacci is Orchid's framework for outcome-based, experiential, learner-centred teaching that connects classroom to workplace.
A pedagogy built for Learn While You Earn
Fibonacci is the teaching-learning and academic-innovation framework that powers every programme at Orchid University, Mangan, North Sikkim. It exists to answer one practical question: how do you make work-integrated, apprenticeship-embedded learning actually work day to day, both in the classroom and on the job? Grounded in our SEEL Framework and aligned to the National Credit Framework (NCrF), Fibonacci treats outcome-based education not as paperwork but as the spine of how Orchidians learn, practise, and prove what they can do.
The name is deliberate. Like the sequence it borrows from, learning at Orchid compounds: each module, each shift at work, each assessment builds on the last, so capability grows in a natural, accelerating curve rather than in disconnected bursts before exams.
How learning happens
Every course begins with clearly stated learning outcomes, and every activity is mapped back to them. Teaching is experiential and learner-centred: students spend less time being talked at and more time doing real work, reflecting on it, and applying feedback. Because our model embeds apprenticeship and work-integrated learning, the workplace becomes a second classroom, and supervisors become co-educators alongside faculty.
- Outcome-based design, with credits and competencies aligned to NCrF.
- Experiential, project-led and case-based learning over passive lectures.
- Structured reflection that turns on-the-job experience into academic credit.
- Continuous, evidence-rich assessment instead of one high-stakes exam.
- Mentoring that links faculty, employers, and students around shared goals.
Faculty, assessment, and innovation
A framework is only as strong as the people who teach it, so Fibonacci invests heavily in faculty development. Our teachers are trained in outcome-based course design, experiential facilitation, inclusive classroom practice, and fair assessment, and they meet regularly to share what works and refine what does not. Continuous professional development keeps Orchid's pedagogy current with how industries and learners are actually changing.
Assessment under Fibonacci is modern and authentic. Alongside written work, Orchidians are evaluated through portfolios, workplace performance, projects, and demonstrations of skill, so a qualification reflects genuine competence rather than exam technique. This is how Orchid, a UGC Section 2(f) recognised institution, ensures that its experiential, earn-while-you-learn promise is matched by rigorous, credible academic standards, and how every graduate leaves ready for real work.
