The Sikkim Legislative Assembly passes the Orchid University Act (Act No. 06 of 2024) — an Act to provide for the establishment and incorporation of Orchid University in the State of Sikkim.

11 July 2025

Assent of the Governor

The Act receives the assent of the Governor of Sikkim, completing the legislative process.

7 August 2025

Sikkim Government Gazette No. 316

The Act is published in the Sikkim Government Gazette (Extraordinary) No. 316 by the Law & Parliamentary Affairs Department, Gangtok — giving the University legal effect.

Recognition under Section 2(f), UGC Act 1956

The University Grants Commission includes Orchid University in the list of universities under Section 2(f) — formal recognition within India's higher-education system.
