UGC Recognition
Recognised, legitimate and nationally connected.
Orchid University is recognised by the UGC under Section 2(f) and established under the Orchid University Act No. 06 of 2024 (Sikkim Gazette No. 316). It is part of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) community.
Orchid University is a recognised State Private University, and its degrees carry full national legitimacy. The university was established under the Orchid University Act No. 06 of 2024, notified in Sikkim Gazette No. 316 by the Government of Sikkim, and is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956.
Section 2(f) recognition confirms that Orchid is an institution empowered to offer programmes and confer degrees within the framework laid down by the UGC. This status places Orchid alongside India's established universities and assures students, parents and employers that an Orchid qualification is genuine, accepted and respected.
What recognition means for students
- Degrees that are valid for employment, higher study and competitive examinations across India
- Programmes governed by UGC norms for academic quality and standards
- Membership in the wider higher-education community, including the Association of Indian Universities (AIU)
For an institution committed to widening access and raising India's Gross Enrolment Ratio, this recognition is foundational. It is the assurance behind every work-integrated degree we award — that the skills our students build, and the credentials they earn, will be honoured wherever their careers take them.
