Governance

Statutory, transparent and accountable by design.

Orchid is governed under the Orchid University Act No. 06 of 2024 (Sikkim Gazette No. 316), with statutory bodies that uphold academic quality, transparency and accountability across the university.

Orchid University campus

Orchid University operates as a State Private University constituted under the Orchid University Act No. 06 of 2024, notified in Sikkim Gazette No. 316. This statutory foundation defines how the university is structured, governed and held accountable, in keeping with the regulatory framework of the Government of Sikkim and the University Grants Commission.

Governance at Orchid is exercised through its statutory authorities, including the office of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Sandeep Sharma, who leads academic administration, supported by the bodies responsible for academic standards, examinations, finance and planning. Together these authorities ensure that decisions are made with rigour, transparency and the long-term interest of students at heart.

Principles that guide us

  • Integrity Always — clear, ethical and consistent decision-making
  • Student First — every policy weighed by its effect on learners
  • Accountability — compliance with the Act, UGC norms and state regulation
  • Excellence with Relevance — quality assurance across curriculum, teaching and outcomes

By embedding these principles into its governance, Orchid aims to be an institution that earns trust — from students and families, from its 800+ industry partners, and from the regulators and government bodies that recognise it. Sound governance is what allows our skilling-led, work-integrated model to scale responsibly while protecting academic credibility.
